Would You Eat A Lab Grown Hamburger?

The national food standards body is assessing an application from a luxury cultivated meat company, while others are watching to see how things work out. The US is the second country in the world to approve the sale of lab-grown chicken, following Singapore. Australia's first application to sell cultured meat is from cell-based meat company Vow. Cell-grown meat is not the same as plant-based meat, which is produced from plant sources such as soy, pea, fungi, wheat and rice. Cultured meat begins with cells from a living animal, a fertilised egg, or a bank of stored cells. What do you think LiveTribers? Would you eat a lab grown hamburger?

When will people realise these companies are only in it to make more money. Less live animals will mean more profit. Plants grown on an acre of land will yield more profit than 1 cow on an acre or more of land and the list goes on. It is a huge con and so many people are falling for it.

No I would not eat a lab created meat in any shape or form. Also if vegans don't want to eat meat why would they be interested in a product like this??

I dont even drink coke or eat McDonalds, so why would I eat fake meat. But then everything is fake these days and i guess that's the direction we are being taken. Also , how do they get all the natural vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids into the fake meat?? .... with fake vitamins??? Watch the diseases rise, which means we need a new vaccine for that. Watch the fake pharma businesses make a lot of money like they always do.

Yes, I certainly would eat lab grown meat. There are a huge amount of positives for this. It is a more controlled environment reducing infections to meats, saving animal lives, less waste, more land available for other uses such as growing crops or building homes. There are at least 2 Australian companies that i know of who are embarking on this exciting new future.

No way would I eat cell-crown meat! I am highly suspicious of cell-grown meat. It doesn't sound natural. I would even love to go back to the days of normal meat, not the Cryovac rubbish the supermarkets sell now. It always tastes odd. I haven't had a decent steak from the supermarket since Woolworths closed their butcher shops.

No. I don't think there is any need for this. Some say cows are bad for the environment etc. I think too much scientific interference is bad. I believe in being sensible, I eat less meat these days and grow vegetables. Moderation is far better than interference.

If this was the only food ('meat') available then yes, but considering that Italy is banning it already, that doesnt show too much up for the industry. Personally given the choice I don't like the thought of eating 'meat' that was grown in a lab.

I would like to give it a try and compare it with real meat, to see if I can tell which one I would prefer. It would be nice if I can accept it and take it as a second option just in case. But if it is nowhere near the taste of real meat. I probably would leave it for good.

Yes!! Once proven safe and nutritious, and possible to produce without creating heaps of toxic waste like plastic, I would TOTALLY LOVE to have this instead of real meat - it would mean (1) no animals need to be farmed and killed, (2) you still get the valuable nutrition of real meat. A much better option than being vegetarian for me, as I struggle to get enough iron even when I heaps of meat.

I would probably give it a go, after all, stem cells are being used for many different reasons these days for use in the human body so I imagine the 'meat' would be safe to eat. By the time seasoning was added, if the meat was BBQ'd I doubt if we would know the difference.

Depends on what is the food being lab grown and whether the product is safe, the production process is more sustainable than naturally grown food, no genetically modified food and mostly, affordable.

What on earth is wrong with people? The universe already provided us with everything we need to survive. our bodies, like it or not, are designed to digest meat and convert it into exactly what we need to function to the best of our ability.. Check out your teeth in the mirror.. We are omnivorous by design.. If we were meant to eat laboratory made food, surely mother nature would have provided us with labs..

Aren't we already eating lab grown or manufactured meat products?? If you read the labelling on many meat products, you might get a surprise as a lot are manufactured, so that to means, it isn't real meat ?? This mainly applies to cold meats, like ham, bacon etc., from what I've seen.

This process sounds fairly disgusting but perhaps many processes in the food industry are dreadful but we just choose not to think about it, or actually don’t know about it. Personally I can’t see the need for it. I don’t believe the hype about ruminant animals causing major climate change. Because I’m an inquisitive person I probably would try lab grown meat. But it will be prohibitively expensive so it would have to be free for me to try.
