Will It Be Chaos If 26 States In The US Ban Abortion If Supreme Court Ruling Stands?

Regulation would be returned to states where lawmakers in south and Midwest have enacted bans in anticipation of court’s decision. More than half of US states will outlaw abortion immediately or as soon as practicable, if a leaked draft decision from five supreme court justices remains substantially unchanged. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? Will it be chaos if 26 states in the US ban abortion if Supreme Court ruling stands?

I had a young relative that had a abortion when about 18,her partner put her up to it. She was just a confused teen! As a result of the abortion she could not have any kids. So she paid a big price for her mistake and I knew she liked kids. Sad! But we live in a society that doesn't really appreciate morals any more. It's good that this has happened in the USA,unlike Australia, that has given too many rights to careless women. It's painful for babies to get aborted.. esp the older the age of the unborn. It was proven over 20 years ago by scans. It's very inhuman!

Every time people have consentual sex they have to accept the risk of pregnancy. If a pregnacy is the result then with other events in life, people have to deal with the results.

Yes it would be devastating for many and also chaos. For rape victims or where it is life threatening to the mother and possibly also baby, not to abort, then it means either a very bad outcome if it cannot go ahead, or major dislocation in having to travel to another state, which would be devastating for the poor or disabled. It would also cause back yard abortion to be reinstated, with all the associated health and disaster connotations of that, as well as legal issues for those in a liturgous country.

I am a pro life myself. I stand with total ban of abortion. However, we must not be blind to pregnancy with complications. If for instance there is a substantial evidence that the safety of the carrier is at risk, then the pregnant should be taken out.

Good old U.S.A., they just keep finding ways of digging themselves a deeper hole that will be difficult to climb out from. They're rapidly taking backward steps compared to where we should be as a global community of the 21st century. The possibility of this law being passed is a prime example.

You say it's backwards, but where is your lack of compassion for the unborn? The women chooses to take the risk and we have many ways to prevent a pregnancy now. They really have no more excuses. You need to get a reality check as we live in a more advanced age. Morals still matter to some of us.

And its getting worse, they can't control the guns on the streets, they want to stop abortions, want to stop people saying the Gay, and way more ridiculous things. The USA is causing a lot of its own problems and unfortunately, they spread to other countries, ours included. I think that the so called good "ol USA is headed for a nasty civil war in their own country...if it hasn't already started.

it shows how backwards the world is going. choice over your own body is taken away by the leaders in control once again. i think if you want a medical procedure done, you should be able to choose it. the only outcome we should be concerned with, is that the abortion is in the best interest of the woman and future child. if its not legal, women and men will find other dangerous methods. i think society moved on and accepted this as, all though disturbing, an appropriate treatment when a child is not appropriate. im sure american's will protest, but if the leaders listen is another thing. id like to know who in any country makes these laws, as its not the people, or a reflection of society.

Your comments do not make sense! You have the choice to use protection when you do the deed. If you aren't bright enough to use protection then maybe you should not do the deed. You have removed your rights when you don't take responsibility for your own body. If you are backwards then you don't take responsibility. We have the means to prevent pregnancy. It costs a lot to have abortions. How cruel it is to murder half termed babies this way. It's obvious by the results that many Americans still do not agree with abortion. It's the public who will have the final say on this as they influence the leaders of the day. It was the best decision in decades. And the most right one.

I understand this is a difficult and sensitive topic. All women should be supported through pregnancy and their lives. Women should receive counselling in this situation. Some women would love to have a child but can't. The child should be able to born and can be adopted or fostered into a loving and stable family. It is not fair for a woman to have to raise a child when they are very young and have no or little family support. Also it would be very difficult for a woman who has fallen pregnant because of rape or incest, to then have to take care of the child. It would be very hard emotionally. Here is Victoria, you can have an abortion at any time of the pregnancy (even up to a few days before the child is born) for any reason. You just need 2 doctors to agree and sign that you need an abortion.

Abortion should be left up to the individual and not the do-gooders/government. If I was raped and fell pregnant I should not have to be sentenced to a life-time of reminder of said rape. Yes the child is not to blame but the child's presence would be a constant reminder of a horrid act

Another step to control women. Disgraceful and archaic men and even some women who think they have the right to rule a womans life. This if passed will take women back 100 years and to back street illegal abbortionists killing them or damaging them to a point their lives are for ever changed. Perhaps something should be bought in for males when they turn of a age to procreate that they are controlled so women no longer have to deal with their by products expecially if bought about by rape, incest, etc. or the fact that the male will not take any responsibility ever. Religion is often bought into these issues whether you believe it or not you have to abide by anothers beliefs and not your own. Your body, you will, your decision, your life.

Abortion is such a difficult topic so many people feel passionate about. It should be left for the people directly affected to decide without being forced by a third party to take action based on what they want. Many women will either go to another state that still allows abortion in their jurisdiction if they can afford it and that will cause chaos. Those who cannot afford it will go to a 'backyard practitioner' just like used to happen in the days prior to abortion being made legal. This will cause mire than chaos, it could cause the death of the woman.

I agree with previous posts, that there is a big danger of backyard abortions increasing if there is a ban. I am sure most girls/women who have abortions don't make the decision easily and are often in desperate situations. Far better to encourage them to consider adoption and help them. I know it's terrible to think of babies being aborted but it's also very sad to think of desperate young women dying after a bad backyard abortion :(

Unfortunately the selfish ones don't think that the unborn has any rights. How do these people think that they got to be born? It's all about individuals rights today, no matter who else gets hurt. Many end up regretting their terminations eventually. So they are left with a bad memory. And that is sad, but at least they have acknowledged it, unlike some women.

I think if the father is involved it probably would not be an issue as he would stick by the mother. Going back years ago when abortion was illegal how many women died or were permanently damaged due to backyard abbortionists. Mostly the men did not even pay for it they just walked away. Parents put their daughters into homes for unmarried mothers where they were treated dreadfully and many of the children died as did the mothers or the babies were sold to wealthy foreigners aka in many cases Americans. Religion was spouted left right and centre but there was not a kind word given by these so called righteous people who just abused and ridiculed the poor girls and often did not even help them with the childbirth but let them suffer "as this was God's will". It is a contentious issue but this is not a perfect world and sometimes difficult decisions have to be made by the girl/woman as to how she wants to proceed. I think this is the only person who should be considered. She will have the opportunity to decide if she wants to continue with the pregnancy and keep or adopt the baby out or have an abortion. Any decision would be difficult and more often than not they never have support from anyone. Fine for people to stand on their soap boxes and demand they do what they think is right but living in the actual situation is a different thing all together. I thankfully have never been in this situation so I do not know what my decision would be but if I was 16-18 again and in the time I was raised I would not have had the choice of a safe abortion. I probably would not have the choice of marriage either. I thankfully think my parents though would not ostracise me but do think I would be blamed. The men never get blamed have you noticed. They seem to get a free pass.

Yes there could be chaos alright, if the lawmakers of states enact bans on abortion laws if it decided to the contrary of the expectation of those states by the courts There will be chaos from people especially for the bans if imposed by those states. Biblically it is wrong to abort a child at any stage, as it is considered like killing a child as it were alive. This is why I too think, it is going against what God intended for this earth. This subject matter is very controversial and people who want to abort their children at any stage think as if it is their right to do so. However I think it is ethically and morally wrong to abort a child. If there is going to be so much opposition from people, the courts themselves may wish to reverse their controversial move to pass abortion.

Your comments are based on your religious views and I respect those. However, many people do not have religious leanings and this does not come into the equation. It is never great to have to abort a child and most women struggle with the decision but there are so many situations when it is necessary. Rape, incest, health, financial, etc. Convenience though should never be one of the conditions to do so. Years ago young women who found themselves pregnant were often sent to religious organisations and treated cruelly with their child taken from them immediately it was born even if the woman/girl wanted to keep it. Many of the children also died due to the lack of care of the mother and thereafter the child. Many children were sold (see the Irish story on this but this is just once instance).
