From May 31 to June 2, the ‘Baking Association of Australia’s annual pie and pastry competition was held in Melbourne. An enthusiastic panel of judges ate its way through thousands of entries by hundreds of Aussie bakeries at the three-day event, and for the second year running – Victoria’s Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes took out the title of Australia’s best pie. In 2021, it won for its surf n turn pie, with chunky beef and prawns in a rich garlicky sauce. But this years winner is a little less polarizing. It’s a creamy, earthy mushroom-and-truffle pie that couldn’t be any more appropriate for the cold snap we’re experiencing? What do you think LiveTribers? Why has Victoria’s ‘Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes taken out the title of Australia’s best pie?
