What Does The Australian Made Logo On Coles Bacon Really Mean?

Aussies claiming to be misled by an “Australian Made” logo on supermarket products may not have the whole story, with the symbol meaning something different to what customers actually think. Coles customers slammed the supermarket giant on Facebook, claiming it had an Australian made logo on its streaky bacon but the fine print stated less than 10% Australian ingredients were used (ingredients which were from Europe and America). What do you think LiveTribers, what does the Australian Made Logo on Coles bacon really mean?

I was told the only way you can ensure pork products are 100% Australian is if they have a bone in. Obviously bacon doesn’t, so I don’t know how else you would know

That means it is NOT Australian made - unless they mean the plastic packet, and that fact must be stated and made clear. I HATE the fact that WE keep being LIED TO by large food suppliers!!

I trust nothing on a packet, including sometimes the name. Milk, for example is from a lactating mammal. The nut and seed stuff is mush and water +/- chemicals to stablise it. Soy is GMO derived and organic produce are sprayed with "approved" chemicals. Most symbols on packets can be bought or worked around. The big end of town are the worst.

Grown in Australia claims apply only when all ingredients are Australian. Produced in Australia claims apply only when virtually all ingredients are from, and virtually all of its major processing occurred in Australia. Made in Australia claims apply when the product underwent its last substantial transformation in Australia, regardless of the origin of its ingredients. https://business.gov.au/products-and-services/product-labelling/country-of-origi n-food-labelling-resources

Yes all of which confuses most people. People just want to know where the products were grown (i.e. Australia). Not hard to be clear Ingredients 100 % Australian grown Made and Packed in Australia Any variance can be added

I've always thought that the Australian Made logo simply identified the item as having gained it's point of sale appearance in Australia. Whether that be by packaging it in Australia, blending it with an imported product, or other. Whether or not there is a minimum of Australian content that must be included I don't remember. I don't like that a miniscule content qualifies a product to be confusingly labelled as Made in Australia. If this is going to continue at least change the fine print to large print status so that we can see immediately, in lettering as large or even larger than the Made in Australia text, that although we didn't get to put much in, we're really bloody proud that our great company managed to shove a little slice of an Aussie speaking pig in amongst all that foreign stuff.
