Should We Worry About Drinking Tap Water?

Water helps to regulate body temperature, lubricates and cushions your joints, and aids your digestive system in getting rid of waste. Not drinking enough water can affect your mood and your physical and cognitive performance. Water, in short, is great. But does it matter where you get it? If you live in the Uk, well not really as they have some of the best quality tap water in the world. What do you think LiveTribers? Should we worry about drinking tap water?

The fear factor in drinking tap water is most likely driven by bottled water manufacturers - I'm sure it's a huge industry ad the more you scare people the more they buy :( If you're worried about it, buy a water filter. It will more than pay for itself in a very short time.

Chlorine kills off beneficial gut bacteria and compromise people's health. I am not impressed with medicating the masses with fluoride; this should be illegal.

Tap water can also pick up pesticides which have been washed into streams and rivers. Chlorine is added to tap water to help disinfect it, but it can react with fallen leaves to form a toxic byproduct. Even your own pipes can contaminate tap water with lead.

Australia has good quality tap water and in many cases better than bottled water. It is not recycled either. Some councils put in Fluoride and others don't. Taste can vary depending on the location in this huge country but it is all safe and monitored.

I use to put a filter on my tap to filter out the nasties and yes there were some as it use to go black after a few weeks. I now live rurally and rely on rainwater but still have a filter as there are always contaminants in the water from atmospheric and other sources.

I never used to worry about tap water because I trusted the institutions and treatment plants that manage it. However, after spending some time in a different location, I realised how hard the water is where I currently live. It dries out my hair and skin so much and tastes so bad. The difference to my hair and skin was so drastic and got me thinking: if this is what the water is doing to the outside of my body, what is it doing to the inside when I drink it?

0f course water is important and a necessary part of our everyday life. the quality of water should matter but we need water to live. water cleanses our body and keeps us healthy. our taps are there to provide this resource and hopefully we get the best quality that it provides

I am sure the water goes through various testing and checks, but it is a different matter once it goes through the pipes right outside your home, which won't be tested here. So,I always filter the water just to be safe

Tap water is generally safe to drink and is subject to strict regulations and testing. Water treatment facilities work to ensure that water meets safety standards before it reaches consumers. However, there can be variations in water quality depending on your location, and it's essential to stay informed about the local water supply. I guess it depends on where are we drinking tap water from.

Our tank water tastes good. We have a water filter unit but I'm always happy to drink it straight from the tap, too. Tea and coffee taste fine but I have been to some different locations where their tap water tastes awful both straight and in tea and coffee. I think a water filter is a good investment and they come in prices to suit different budgets.

The quality of tap water partly depends on Sydney Water's deeply corrupted business plans to increase the water pricing. I am using homemade distilled water for drinking (it is a very good idea for your health), coffee, tea, and cooking (just better taste). You must see what remains after distilling Sydney Water's water inside the distiller !!! But I am not so scared about the use of tap water (filtered, or even without it). Our immune system and our "inner filters" must be ready for chemicals and other garbage in the tap water (even inside the rainwater), and they must be regularly trained. Never live to clean!

I have a water filter on my kitchen sink tap as the town tap water can be unreliable and full of chemicals. I also add a pinch of Celtic salt to my drink bottle as this assists the cells to absorb the rehydration properties of the water.

We are lucky in Australia that we do mostly have good quality tap water. The other option of always buying plastic bottled water is so bad for the environment. Just came back from Thailand where the beaches were full of plastic bottle caps. Awful. Drink tap water, if its good.

I personally buy bottled water, as I don't have a water filter at home. I do have family who drink tap water and don't buy any bottled water. It comes down to the water's taste and the cost of water. I used to come from Tasmania and the water tasted better there. I think it is a personal choice for people: do they drink tap water or do they want to buy bottled water. I do recycle all the water bottles and buy water that is made out of recycled materials. I do return each bottle to the depot where I get paid 10 cents per bottle.

generally, tap water is considered safe to drink. Strict water quality standards and regulations are in place to ensure the safety of tap water supplies. Water treatment processes are implemented to meet these standards and to provide clean and safe drinking water to us.

The town where I am has the latest filtration system adding small amounts of chlorine and no fluoride. Testing is done routinely at end of the line for impurities and to check chlorine levels. All this complies with local, state federal and World Health Organisation guidelines. My neighbour still boils the water as does not like chlorine in it. Given that this kind of operation is common in Australia no need to be concerned about drinking tap water here. But it is nice to know if tested whether it has chlorine or fluoride in it. Now if you go to Morocco, Bali or many other places then don't drink tap water before boiling. Otherwise use bottled water.

It all depends on where you live and what your tap water is like. Our tap water here is really good and I don't think much about it while I'm drinking it. I have been to places where they only have bore water, which is horrid to drink, so you'd want to see if there is any tank water to drink there. I've also tasted tap water in London, which was even worse than bore water. Certain places in Australia can taste a little more chlorinated than other places, so I feel fortunate to live in an area that has good tasting tap water.

I live in Greater Sydney and have no problems drinking tap water but our population is growing and The Greens won't allow the government to build a new dam so we are on water restrictions constantly so they are considering adding recycled sewerage to the system. I don't like the idea one little bit because they are able to tell who has Covid and what drugs people are taking by testing sewerage. What happens if something happens, and accidents do happen and untreated sewerage makes it's way into the drinking water? I would much prefer desalinated water powered by a nuclear modular power plant. I don't want to risk drinking contaminated water.

The question was a bit confusing, but I have no problem with drinking tap water in Australia or other countries if I am told it is safe by a reliable source. I lived in a small country town for many years and the tap water there was beautiful. Clear, lovely tasting, nice and cold. Then one day it started tasting of chlorine and was awful. I rang the Council and they told me that they had to add the chlorine because visitors and people moving from the city weren't able to drink our water. It was making them sick. That was a very sad day for us locals. The new chlorinated water was making us "sick" and we felt that the city slickers and visitors must have been sooks! I now live in a different regional area and our tap water there is also lovely. I often tell tourists who I see buying heaps of bottled water that our tap waster is safe to drink and lovely tasting. I haven't heard of this tap water making people sick so far, although when we have a huge amount of tourists in town, the tap water does tend to taste more of chlorine. Fortunately it doesn't affect me much because I tend to leave town when we have a huge influx of tourists at Christmas anyway.

I was a bit confused by your message as you didn't give enough details. Well, in Australia our drinking water is very acceptable. I cannot speak for the UK, but it's probably better than the US. In some areas, such as regional areas, they have had issues. But the water infrastructure isn't usually as good. In some areas---the pipes, old, need upgraded. In summer.. the water quality tastes a bit off due to the heat rays on the pipes. In winter.. the water is very cold. We are lucky we live in a first rate country that has quality water.
