Animal shelters on Australia’s east coast are reporting a spike in the number of animals being surrendered in the wake of lifted lockdowns and eased restrictions. With long stretches of time at home, and neighbourhood walks being one of the main available activities through the pandemic, record numbers of animals have been fostered, adopted and purchased. As many are locked down and currently working from home, it’s a perfect time to bring a new companion into your life. However, one organization, the Lost Dogs Home in Victoria said many new owners were not properly considering life beyond lockdown and it has seen a 30% increase in pets being returned after being adopted or surrendered by their owners. What are your thoughts LiveTribers. Should new pet owners ask for help before surrendering animals?
