Should Australia Be Worried As Polio Is Spreading Through The US, UK and Israel?

The last case of locally acquired polio in Australia was 1972. But it’s popping up in New York, London and Jerusalem, and we could be next. Until recently, polio had only been detected in a handful of countries, thanks to global eradication efforts. But this year’s polio alerts in the US, UK and Israel are a reminder that as long as poliovirus is found anywhere, it is a potential problem everywhere. That could include Australia. What are your thoughts LiveTriber? Should Australia be worried as polio is spreading through the US, UK and Israel?

If it does start to spread in Australia, they better not make a decision to lock us down and restrict freedoms etc, take away our rights (for our own good). Everyone is vaccinated against polio, and those who aren't, they just have to be careful, or get vaccinated. Simple as that. The polio vaccine is an actual vaccine, unlike covid 'vaccines' whoch don't fit the definition of vaccines. Though everyone just believes what they are told and don't do their own research or critically think about what's being shoved down their throats by the govt.

How severe are these "outbreaks" overrseas? Sabin is still effective in managing Polio and it wouldn't be hard to initiate a vaccination program in schools. It's an oral medication.

We as a species should use the very thing that keeps us all safe , the brain, and use it . What we discovered is that vaccines work for the majority and have kept many a person alive who would be dead if we didn't have them so get vaccinated for the whole of humanity.

Most people weren't around or have forgotten what a terrible disease this was - there were many crippled by it, some having to endure the iron lung - it had been under control, almost eradicated, but thanks to anti - vaxxers is rearing it's head again.

I don't think we should be worried vaccinations rates are still high enough for it not to be a problem. Most people are still vaccinating their children with the normal childhood immunsations, it seems to be covid vaccine that is really dividing people.

no. cancer and heart disease are bigger threats to each individuals, yet we don't see hysteria over these killers, like diseases that hardly effect anyone. its just another reason for people to take responsibility for their own health, like eating and exercising, and stop thinking a shot in the arm will cure all your problems. we have an immune system god gave us, its an amazing thing, that heals a sore on its own, or heals a cut, inside or out of the body. if humans seen its the real defense, and not chemicals they have no idea whats in them and what its doing to their body, then the threat of any virus or disease would be low. vaccines dont work, never have, never will. theres no money in something that works. another reason why no one mentions enhancing the body naturally, because then their lie of needing a vaccine would be gone. well, for me, it is.

For sure Australia should be worried about the spread of polio as Australia is just as vulnerable as the US, UK and Israel. Australia should ensure wastewater surveillance is routinely conducted and ensure that Australians are vaccinated against polio especially people that are travelling to those infectious countries. Since COVID-19, we are hearing about bad infectious diseases more often than ever before so no matter what, Australians should be alert and aware. Check if you and family members are up-to-date with their vaccinations.

It's an unfortunate fact that newer generations have not experienced Polio, and other contagious diseases and therefore have little to no idea of the devastation and death caused. I'm of the age that received some of the earliest polio vaccination by injection and I can still remember having it done because it was painful and upsetting. It did however get me a trip to the zoo and an icecream (1, all to myself and not sharing with my 3 brothers, which was the normal way) I grew up with a Grandmother who survived Poliomyelitis as a 2 year old but lived to 75 needing to use 2 walking sticks and heavy metal callipers on her legs to be able to walk. She had to have her shoes specially made because of the 3 sizes difference between her feet. I also had an Uncle, my Father's brother who had Poliomyelitis at age 4. He was discharged from hospital after 6 months due to the shortage of beds in hospital because of polio. He arrived home in iron lung on a hospital gurney and slowly recovered during the following years and the absolute devotion and sacrifice of his Mother, but his body was left twisted and disabled. Despite this he lived in a great deal of pain until his mid 70's. They both were so amazing. They both refused to be hampered by their disabilities and didn't listen to those who used to whisper within hearing distance that they thought it would have been kinder if they just died. So there was no question with my generation, of course we would all be given the vaccine and we were so very lucky. When my children were little the vaccine was given at school and it was no longer an injection but a tasty syrup in a tiny spoon. 2 doses and protected for life. So definitely I say yes to getting the polio vaccine.

Be afraid, be very afraid the adherents to the MURDEROUS IDEOLOGY of ISLAM in Pakistan are killing the ladies that are distributing the vaccine which causes the disease to become endemic in the community then the Australian Government imports the disease as the World has a love affair with Islam.

Australia, along with every other country, should indeed be worried, but only if vaccinations have been ignored. We have so many freedoms in this country that the one becoming most popular currently is the freedom to ignore the lessons to be learned from history. It would appear that there is an element in our society who are willing to ignore their ability to think for themselves, and put their trust in the ramblings of a fruitcake who knows nothing about everything. I have no doubt that as with Covid, there will be those that put their brains in the hands of the fruitcakes and ignore any opportunity to immunise against polio. If an adult chooses to do so it's their problem, but to ignore protecting their children is an act which should result in a massive prison sentence. I grew up in the '50s and '60s and saw far too many children that were crippled for life by this disease. Any parent willing to risk their child becoming deformed by polio would be for kinder if they allowed their children to play Russian Roulette with their friends. It might get messy but they won't have to live with the result for eighty or ninety years.
