Is Ash Barty’s Early Retirement The Right Decision?

Ash Barty’s retirement is a complete surprise, she departs tennis with universal acclaim and respect. It seems only weeks ago that a nation’s eyes bulged at the sight of Ash Barty 5-1 deficit in the second set of the Australian Open final into a historic triumph. That night, American Danielle Collins shed a tear on the podium and privately wondered how a petite and kind opponent had ruthlessly dismantled her. Now Collins and other contenders eye an inconceivable opportunity of their own: at 25, with the world at her feet, Barty has retired from tennis, foregoing her zenith and trophies galore. What do you think LiveTribers? Is Ash Barty’s early retirement the right decision?

I think she has every right to do what she feels like. Sometimes things change in your life and what you have been doing doesn't fit with your lifestyle anymore.

She seems a well balanced sensible lady. But our Sportsmen and Women are overexposed, overrated and overpaid. And the hypocritical media are to blame and some of us Lemming Consumers who need to get a life ,!!

It is indeed, she has many other equally valuable experiences ahead of her. She is savvy enough to know that tennis will only last so long....good luck to her and her future husband & children....a family girl at heart.

I understand that it is extremely hard work to become a champion like Ash Barty. She has devoted so much of her life to becoming the champion and wonderful person that she is. I think that if she feels that now is the right time to retire for her, then it probably is. I am sure she now wants to concentrate on marrying, becoming a mother and spending more time with her family and friends. She possibly has other sports she might want to pursue too that don't take up so much of her life. I wish her luck with whatever she does, as she is a very humble and caring person.

Honestly who cares if some self important person who does nothing useful decides to retire from hitting a ball over a net?

You should read up on the things Ash is involved with. Very much involved with the indigenous Australians donating money to start up a tennis program. She also donated $350,000.00 to help the people devastated by the 2020 bushfires and the list goes on. She also helps the RSPCA, helping to end puppy farming to name a couple of other things she is involved with. She is a woman who shows class and humility without a harsh word about anyone. She has achieved a lot in sport both cricket and tennis and is a good gold player as well. She will be married soon and I guess she will want to begin a family and spend more time in that role. I wish her all the luck in the world and thank her for representing Australia so wonderfully.
