How Is Pollution Causing A Male Fertility Crisis?

Sperm quality seems to be declining around the world and now scientists are narrowing in on what might be behind the problem. Male infertility contributes to approximately half of all cases of infertility and affects 7% of the male population. However, it is much less discussed than female infertility, partly due to the social and cultural taboos surrounding it. For the majority of men with fertility problems, the cause remains unexplained and stigma means many are suffering in silence. Factors including pollution have been shown to affect men’s fertility, and specifically, sperm quality, with potentially huge consequences for individuals and entire societies.

Just don't blame pollution. Age, smoking, drugs,STDs, bad diet, and other factors can all contribute as can their work. It doesn't affect the majority of people that breed. Learn to accept that some people are not meant to be parents and get on with life.

Pollution along all the unhealthy habits, drugs, smoking etc could all be contributing.

Most likely pollution, chemicals etc would be the likely culprit.

No one seems to have mentioned contraception's. These are being passed into the sewerage and out into oceans and waterways. I remember many years ago (30-40) there was a story on children in Sweden I think it was where the boys were becoming more female and quite beautiful. It was leaning to contraceptives then being the reason. It can be a combination of insecticides, pollution, food, etc. Why shouldn't men come into the equation. How many women were killed or ostracised due to not having male babies when it is the male who is the one who passes this on. Same reason why they do not talk about low sperm count in men. They do not want to be told that so they blame the women. Each has to take responsibility for finding out who is responsible if not both.

Pollution can lower sperm quality in several ways. Exposure to air pollution, for example, can increase oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, which can damage sperm DNA and reduce sperm concentration, motility, and morphology. Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) found in pollution can also interfere with hormonal signaling in the body, contributing to male reproductive disorders. Additionally, exposure to heavy metals and other toxins can accumulate in the testes and seminal fluid, affecting sperm production and function.

Which pollution? All of it! Have a look at what industry especially coal and gas spew out, they will not spend the money to make it clean. Follow that up with chemicals like glysophate which is in most in-organic food, on lawns, and other places where weeds are treated. Then you have the thousands of chemicals in packaged food, household products, personal care products, especailly fragrances, such a toxic soup that the human body is continusouly bombared with so much . Our livers are so overloaded with work to filter all this that it causes so much sickness, weight problems, mental problems and of course ferilitiy problems. Everyone needs to get back to natural products, eat wholefoods and stop using all the toxic chemicals!. Have a read of the books Brain Saver and Liver Rescue by Anthony William the medical medium, he talks a lot about the effects on our brain and bodies.

In addition to Paula's comments I would add another P: pesticide use! (why do people think they only affect "pests"???)

I think the cause is a number of things. Firstly, underwear. I seem to remember people saying men needed air but now undies are very close and tight. Then there's diet with much more junk food and alcohol today. Plastic leaching into foods is also a cause and lastly trans fats and things added to food in order for it to remain fresh for months. So in short, it's probably life style.
