How Do You Travel Around Australia With Your Dog?

Before taking your first long trip with your dog in your car, first make sure they’re comfortable on shorter trips. Puppies often get car sick, but usually grow out of it; ginger chews can help, as can a car seat for smaller dogs so they can see out of the window. The rules for pets on public transport vary greatly throughout Australia. The most pet-friendly state is Victoria. Dogs of all sizes are allowed on metropolitan trains in Melbourne, if they’re wearing a leash and muzzle or are in a container. Soon, you may be able to fly with your pet in the cabin on domestic flights in Australia. In March 2024, Virgin Australia announced plans to allow small cats and dogs to fly in the cabin on selected flights, subject to regulatory approval. They would need to always remain in an approved carrier underneath the seat in front. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? How do you travel around Australia with your dog?

I absolutely agree with ERE....Animals are NOT human,!! With exception Guide or Assistance Dogs when absolutely needed.

It all started with Bunnings allowing dogs in their stores. Now there are dog turds and piss on the floors and dogs fighting each other in the store's aisles. I've seen Bunnngs trolleys with dogs in and the next customer putting their child into the same trolley, disgusting—Good move Bunnings. I now buy from another brand hardware store. Dogs should either be left home with someone to look after them or put into kennels.

I so agree with you ere. I saw a Bunnings staff member try to pat a dog and it tried to bite her. The owner didn't seem upset. Also I am noticing more and more people bringing dogs into our local Coles store. They are not leashed and do not have a Service Dog coat on them. One man had a Husky in a trolley where the groceries go and no Service Dog sign on the dog. He walked around the supermarket for at least 30 minutes (while I was there) and didn't buy a thing. Staff just pat the dogs. Nobody says anything. I was at one checkout where the checkout lady was patting the dog then scanned my groceries without cleansing her hands. I also saw a dog defecate on the floor in our local NAB branch. It had diarrhoea and made a terrible mess and it smelt terrible. The poor lady from the bank had to wash the whole floor. I loudly announced that the owner of the dog should be doing this, but he didn't take any notice. His dog was also not a service dog. Things are getting ridiculous. There are many of us who do not regard dogs as people and do not want to have them sitting near us on public transport or using a trolley after they have been sitting in it. Guide dogs are fine as are LEGAL Service Dogs. I suspect many dogs that are wearing Service Dog signs had their sign bought on the internet and are just pets, not genuine Service Dogs.

I don't have a dog but I do have 5 cats and there is no way I would travel with them either by plane or road and I certainly don't want to be on a plane that is also carrying animals.

I think members personal data is not all safe, and until they fix the issue and complete my payment, I won't attend their surveys.

My dog is too big and would not enjoy this at all. I would not enjoy barking, vomiting, pees and poo smells either. Dog hair is another big problem. Not suitable for people allergic to pets. Who is responsible if the dog bits someone? Or the pet dies on the fight?
