Are Smart Toys And Baby Products Worth It For Parents?

More and more smart baby monitors and AI-powered toys are entering the Australian market, but these expensive products can have a significant privacy cost. Smart baby monitors can recognise what a baby is doing by using AI systems that have been trained with databases of baby faces and cries. Surveilling and collecting data from intimate household spaces is what makes these devices function as promised. However, many of these devices are data-extractive and invasive by design, without adequate privacy or security protections. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? Are smart toys and baby products worth it for parents?

I think the goal is to reach a balance. Smart toys and products shouldn't replace instincts, they should serve s purpose to assist, but never replace

For me it's worth it, it help up doing the chores or other things while monitoring our baby or by .aking them busy playing.

My kids were all raised without 'smart toys' just as I was and the generations before us. A child's imagination can develop regardless.

We need parents to be responsible parents, not to rely on tech to do their job.

Many are backed by research - it just depends on the toy/game and the child. But yes, there are a lot of great educational toys and games that I would definitely buy.

I had 3 children and never needed a baby monitor because I could hear them crying. Why are parents now unable to hear their children?

No.....invasion of privacy and rarely replaces parental presence and eternal vigilance. Tech is not always 100% reliable. Commonsense should always be used with tech!

OK if you are too lazy to get up off your butt and check your offspring properly like all previous generations managed to do without breaking into a sweat. Laziness appears to be a modern trend including voice commands to switch on and off lights etc.,

Probably not. Gullible supposedly tech savvy households are playing into the hands of Big Brother and internet scammers by being too bloody lazy to behave as responsible engaged parents. Get off your collective backsides and physically CHECK your children. And don't give scammers grist for their mill!!!!
