All of us want to be healthy. But for some of us, the hardest battle is eating healthy food consistently. Often, we associate ‘healthy eating’ with eating salads, or food with little to no flavour. We also think that eating healthy foods means never being satisfied. But have no fear LiveTriber’s, on this week’s blog will break the negative stigma behind eating healthy and show you how you can eat healthy food everyday with ease! With these 4 simple tips, we will show you how to eat healthy and be satisfied!
Healthy eating is not a diet, it’s a lifestyle! Many of us associate ‘healthy food’ with unfulfilling meals such as dry salads, and munching on bowls of lettuce. But what if we told you that eating healthy is easier than you think:
Choose foods you enjoy.
One of the keys to maintaining a consistent healthy lifestyle is creating foods you enjoy! Start by trying different foods such as vegetables and fruits that may be outside your comfort zone. You’d be surprised by how your taste buds develop and change. Once you know your general likes and dislikes, start creating dishes using those ingredients. For example, if you dislike cucumbers, don’t force yourself to eat cucumbers! Although they provide great vitamins, there are other great veegtables that will give you the nutrients you need! Forcing yourself to eat foods you hate will bring negative association to healthy eating. Instead, use vegetables you do enjoy, maybe it’s lettuce or tomato.
Also, try making a healthier version of your favourite take out food. For example, if you love pizza, make your own and add more veggies and less fatty meats and you got yourself a tasty dish you can eat often! This will also make your meals more satisfying.
Read labels
When grocery shopping, many times we forget to understand what actually goes into our food. Processed food isn’t always bad, but sometimes they consist of chemicals and preservatives that our bodies do not need! On top of that, many seemingly healthy cereals or muesli bars are packed with lots of unnecessary sugar! So start reading your labels, primarily the ingredients list to get a better understanding of what is inside your food.
Incorporate a variety of foods
When we get older, often what we eat becomes a habit. We start to stick to foods we’re used to rather than branching out. If that’s you, start incorporating ingredients from the five different food groups. This will help you achieve a more balanced diet and receive optimal nutrition. This will also help you create more satisfying meals, as you are receiving nutrients from all food groups.
Meal prep
Often, people prefer eating take out for its convenience. Which makes sense since most of us have kids, a job, a house to take care of and food can become our last priority! Although take out food is okay, many of those dishes are full of salt which means it should only be enjoyed in moderation, eating at home will cut out a lot of sodium and you will know exactly what goes in your dish! Try meal prepping, if possible take 1-2 hours in the beginning of the week to prep your food for the week. This will prevent you from reaching out for take out since you already have food waiting for you! Here are some quick, healthy dishes you can make at home (especially if you hate salads 😉 )
